Configurations
They comprise a virtual machine and a minimal set of class libraries and they provide the base functionality for a particular range of devices that share similar characteristics, such as network connectivity and memory footprint.
Currently, there are two J2ME configurations:
- Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC):
CLDC is a minimal J2ME configuration for devices with stringent restrictions on computational power, battery life, memory, and network bandwidth.
- Connected Device Configuration (CDC):
CDC is designed for more powerful devices than those CLDC supports, such as high-end cell phones and PDAs, and the more sophisticated embedded devices: set-top boxes, devices that provide network-based computing features through a television; web-based devices such as Internet appliances; and even car navigation systems.
