Mobile Commerce Transaction Processing

To explain how the mobile commerce components work together, the two figures give flowcharts showing how a user request is processed by the components in a mobile commerce system from different views.

Brief descriptions of how each component processes a user transaction are given below:
  1. Mobile commerce applications: A mobile commerce content provider implements an application by providing two sets of programs:
    • client-side programs and scripts, such as user interface on a microbrowser and Internet-connected J2ME (Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition) handheld programs, and
    • server-side programs and scripts, such as CGI scripts and database accessing and updating.

  2. Mobile handheld devices: Internet-enabled mobile handheld devices present user interfaces to the end users, who submit their requests on the interfaces. The devices relay the user requests to the rest components and display the processed results on the interfaces later.
