Mobile Handheld Device Types
Mobile handheld devices have computing and communications capabilities, and provide users with mobile access to, for example, phone, the Web, e-mail, and even faxes. There are two types of mobile handheld devices:
- smart cellular phones and
- PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants).
These two kinds of devices started out as very different products, but they have gradually blended into each other.
In the near future, it will be difficult to tell the differences between these two types of devices.
Tablet PCs belong to the category of PDAs because both have similar functionality.
- Smart cellular phones are voice-centric devices with information functions, such as BlackBerry 7100 Series, which include the features:
- an integrated phone, wireless email and data experience,
- SureType innovative keyboard technology, which integrates a traditional phone keypad and a familiar QWERTY-style keyboard with intuitive software,
- hands-free dialogue when making a client call or for convenient conference calls, and
- initiating, receiving and responding to email, scheduling meetings and accessing up-to-date reports.
