Business Document Exchange

The other XML application, publishing, manipulates information that is primarily intended for human consumption, whereas this application, business document exchange, manipulates information that is primarily intended for software consumption.

EDI (Electronic Data Interchange)
EDI is the transfer of data between different companies using networks. EDI works by providing a collection of standard message formats and element dictionary in a simple way for businesses to exchange data. As more and more companies get connected to the Internet, EDI is becoming important as an easy method for companies to buy, sell, and trade information.

The Three-Tier Web Application Model
A request to a web application can be initiated from another program using the same model and the same protocol, HTTP, used by human users.
