The LAMP Stack

The LAMP stack, a set of open source technologies for the corporate web-application development, includes four basic component technologies:

  • Linux,
  • Apache web server,
  • MySQL, and
  • Perl/PHP/Python.
Linux Operating System
It is a free open-source operating system based on Unix. The defining component of Linux is the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel, first released in 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux was originally developed as a free operating system for Intel x86-based personal computers. It has since been ported to more computer hardware platforms than any other operating systems.

Apache Web Server
Apache is an open-source HTTP server for modern operating systems including UNIX and Windows NT. Web server is the software that helps to deliver web content that can be accessed through the Internet.
     

MySQL Relational Database Management System (RDBMS)
It is an open source RDBMS that uses Structured Query Language (SQL). The MySQL we are using is MySQL 5.1.73-standard and is hosted in the cloud at undcsmysql.mysql.database.azure.com (for faculty: undmysqlappdb.und.edu).
