Microsoft Expression Web

Microsoft FrontPage is a WYSIWYG HTML editor and web site administration tool. It was replaced by two new tools for application building and web authoring in 2006:
  • Office SharePoint Designer for the enterprise information workers, and

  • Expression Web for the professional web designer.

Microsoft Expression Web is a professional design tool to create sophisticated standards-based web sites. It combines both FrontPage and Visual Studio technologies in a new user interface for creating XHTML, CSS, XML, XSLT, and ASP.NET 2.0. Where appropriate, the user interface and features of Expression Web and Visual Studio are identical.
Microsoft has consolidated Expression Web and Visual Studio into Visual Studio to offer a unified solution of web and modern development patterns. Visual Studio enables developers to design, develop, and maintain websites and web applications.
Visual Studio makes it easy to build CSS-based websites from the ground up with CSS layouts, HTML5 support, and full featured capabilities for working with JavaScript. Expression Web 4 are now available for download, and no new versions will be developed.
