Microsoft .NET Framework (Cont.)


The framework includes a large library of coded solutions to common programming problems and a virtual machine that manages the execution of programs.

.NET Framework 2.0 includes the following components:
  • The Common Language Runtime (CLR), the virtual machine responsible for managing the execution of .NET programs,

  • Base Class Libraries, pre-built code for common low-level programming tasks, and

  • Development frameworks and technologies, reusable, customizable solutions for larger programming tasks.
 

The .NET Framework is the infrastructure for the .NET platform. The background for .NET is part of Microsoft’s new strategy to keep Windows the dominant operating system in the market, as computing begins to move away from desktop computers toward Internet enabled devices.
