A server is a computer designed to process requests and deliver data to another computer over the networks. A well-known type of server is a web server where web pages can be accessed over the internet through a client like a web browser.
There are several types of servers, including local ones like file servers that store data within an intranet network and RADIUS (Remote Authentication Dial-In Service) server which allows remote access servers to communicate with the central server to authenticate and authorize remote user access. Servers span the widest range in cost and capability. At the low end, a server may be a personal computer, and at the other extreme it could be a supercomputer.
